I have spent a lot of time thinking about what I want to dedicate my life to, and I have come up with some major goals. Through a mixture of idealism and realism, I believe I can make great progress in these fields:

  • Become a leader in space exploration
    • I want to create and/or lead a space exploration startup that benefits mankind. I have always been captivated by the cosmos, and I want to make my childhood dreams of touring the universe a reality.
  • Reduce educational, economic, and/or social inequality
    • Through my influence as a leader in a tech field, I hope to reduce inequality.
    • I may want to work in the field of educational equality, as I am passionate about equal opportunity for all.
    • I also hope to serve as a mentor for young women and underserved minorities. I firmly believe that everyone should have the right to learn and grow to their fullest potential.
  • Pour my soul into nature/landscape photography
    • My photography blog can be found here: maggiewangphotography.com
    • I want to serve the art, not myself. However, I still want to be featured in multiple prominent art galleries and shows—there is no better feeling than sharing my artwork and way of seeing the world.
    • Get more into astrophotography (and build my own observatory!)
    • My photography inspirations include Michael Kenna, Ernst Haas, John Paul Caponigro, and Ansel Adams.
  • Publish writing that changes how people view the world
    • Write multiple science fiction short stories, books, articles, and/or poetry
    • Continue blogging (and maybe, when I have more substantial things to say, publicize my blog more)
    • My favorite authors include Ted Chiang, Ray Bradbury, James Tiptree Jr., and Orson Scott Card
  • Run marathons and lead a healthy lifestyle
    • I have always felt that running improves all aspects of my life—it trains me in grit, self-discipline, and strength.

Other goals:

  • Be a good person—stay true to my values and uphold a strong character
  • Become more self-actualized. Learn more about myself, including my intentions and desires through reflection and meditation.
  • Foster meaningful relationships with good people
  • Continue to expand my worldview by learning more about a variety of subjects—ranging from psychology to physics to history
  • Fall in love and marry the right person for the right reasons
  • Get a dog (Australian Shepherd) and have two curious and happy kids.
  • Build my own house (with a loft, high ceilings, and a comfy vibe), create a workshop for personal projects, and an astronomy observatory (for deep field astrophotography)
  • Be a political activist and stay politically involved
  • Serve people, places, and ideas—contribute to society in a meaningful way
  • Become more intelligent, both emotionally and intellectually
